Resources to Help You Prepare for the HexaTrek
There are several resources to help you prepare for your trip. The main ones are:
The Official HexaTrek Website
The website is a veritable goldmine of information, offering essential data on the trail. You’ll find a detailed description of the route, interactive maps, downloadable GPX files, articles on a wide range of subjects and answers to frequently asked questions to help you plan your adventure. The site also features a documentary film about the trail and portraits of hikers from previous years, providing inspiration before you set off. To go to the website: https://www.hexatrek.com/en.

The HexaTrek Discord
Discord, for those unfamiliar with it, is an online discussion platform, a bit like a cross between a forum and instant messaging. It is often used by communities to exchange information in real time. In the case of HexaTrek, this is where most of the exchanges between hikers take place. The HexaTrek Discord group has several thousand members who actively help each other. Many pertinent questions are asked, and hundreds of hikers share their advice and experiences. The community is very responsive, and thanks to the ‘Introduction’ section, it’s also a great way to meet future walking companions. To join the Discord group, go directly to the official HexaTrek website, where you’ll find an invitation link .

The Trail’s Mobile App
Day-to-day organisation on the trail is made much easier by the mobile application developed for the HexaTrek. Operating entirely offline, it always provides access to detailed maps. You’ll find all the information you need to plan your sections: bivouac areas, unguarded shelters, guarded huts, water and refreshment points. The app also identifies must-see sites along the route, such as natural wonders and villages classified as the most beautiful in France. In 2024, some of the water sources on the application were out of date, but a recent update has improved its reliability. However, it is always prudent not to rely on it 100%. The app’s creators have no control over weather conditions, which may alter trail conditions, refreshment points or water sources in the current year. Remember to check the information yourself and carry a small reserve of extra water in case of drought. Since April 2025, an update of the application has revolutionised it. Altimeter profiles have been added, as well as functions for adding points of interest and commenting on existing ones. This will increase the reliability of the information and enable it to be updated in real time on the trail. The application, already incredible in 2024, will become an essential tool in 2025.
